Ship Awards

 

The USS Alan Turing has two types of awards:  those that are discretionary and the annual chapter awards.  Discretionary awards are granted when certain conditions are met.  Annual awards are voted on by the crew and awarded by the Command Crew once a year.

 

ANNUAL AWARDS

 

  • Officer of the YearThis award is given to the member of officer rank who has made the most significant contributions to the chapter over the past calendar year.  The award candidate will have attended a majority of the chapter's scheduled events as well as made a significant impact on chapter leadership. They will have represented the Alan Turing in a professional manner to other STARFLEET chapters and non-STARFLEET fan groups.  Involvement in the chapter's recruiting and public relations activities is a plus.
  • Enlisted Member of the Year:  This award is given to the member of enlisted rank who has made the most significant contributions to the chapter over the past calendar year.  The award candidate will have attended a majority of the chapter's scheduled events as well as made a significant impact on chapter leadership. They will have represented the Alan Turing in a professional manner to other STARFLEET chapters and non-STARFLEET fan groups.
    Involvement in the chapter's recruiting and public relations activities is a plus.
  • Senior Cadet of the Year:  This award is given to the junior member of ages 13 through 17 who has made the most significant contributions to the chapter over the past calendar year.  The award candidate will have attended a majority of the chapter's scheduled events. He will have represented the Alan Turing in an age-appropriate manner to other STARFLEET chapters and non-STARFLEET fan groups.
  • Junior Cadet of the Year:  This award is given to the junior member of ages 6 through 12 who has made the most significant contributions to the chapter over the past calendar year. The award candidate will have attended a majority of the chapter's scheduled events (accompanied by a parent). They will have represented the Alan Turing in an age-appropriate manner to other STARFLEET chapters and non-STARFLEET fan groups.

 

DISCRETIONARY AWARDS

 

  • Captain Spock Award: This award is given at the discretion of the Command Staff for those who have gone above and beyond the call of duty to support the chapter and can be awarded to STARFLEET or non STARFLEET members. Examples of events that may trigger this award are very generous donations to the chapter or to a chapter project, creation of a chapter website, etc. Nominations for this award may be made by any crewmember and should be submitted to the XO. The Command Staff will evaluate the nomination.

  • Academic Achievement Award: This award recognizes a crewmember's successful completion of both OTS and OCC. No nominations are needed. The Command Staff will review all crewmembers' Academy records once a month.

  • Captain’s List Award: This award recognizes a crewmember's successful completion of OTS, OCC, and FOS-101. No nominations are needed. The Command Staff will review all crewmembers' Academy records once each month.

  • Time in Service Award: This award recognizes a crewmember's years in service to STARFLEET. No nominations are needed. The Command Staff will review all crewmembers' records on or near their renewal dates. Years in service do not need to be consecutive to be eligible.

 

STARFLEET Marine Corps Awards

 

  • Cross of Gallantry (Bronze Cross)This award is given to the marine, officer or enlisted, that most exemplifies the spirit, image and attitude of the SFMC within a particular marine unit (MSG or MEU); the one who sets the standard for personal conduct, appearance, motivation, dedicated service and esprit de corps for which all STARFLEET Marines in that unit strive. Marines will wear the device for the highest earned in a given year, meaning over the years more than one level could be earned. All three can be displayed on the same ribbon, with highest level devices inboard (toward the viewer’s left with any subsequent award stars going outboard (to the viewer’s right) of the level earned. Maximum of 4 total devices on the ribbon.
  • Sword of Gallantry (Bronze Swords)This award is given to the Marine who most exemplifies the personal and professional standards of leadership valued by their Marine unit. This individual, through their actions and words, has provided the highest standard of guidance and leadership to their fellow Marines, setting a standard of excellence for other leaders to follow.  Members of the unit can assist the OIC by identifying up to 3 candidates that they feel are worthy of the Sword of Gallantry.  The final decision on who receives the award will be made by Unit OIC.
  • Shield of Gallantry (BronzHourglass): This award is given to the Marine who has made the most significant personal impact in community service efforts within a particular Marine Unit (MSG or MEU). This effort does not necessarily have to be on behalf of a SFMC campaign effort, but financial donations are specifically excluded as the basis for eligibility. Volunteering your time and hard work counts; simply writing a check does not.
  • Star of Gallantry (Bronze Star) – This award is given to the Marine NCO who most exemplifies the personal and professional standards of leadership valued by the NCO Corps of a Marine Unit (MSG or MEU). This Marine NCO has made a significant personal impact in community service efforts throughout their area, and through their actions and words, have provided the highest standard of guidance and leadership to their fellow Marines, setting a standard of excellence for other NCOs to follow.
  • Leaders Commendation: This award is given by a Unit OIC to a marine under his command who exemplifies meritorious service either by demonstrating consistently outstanding performance over time, or by performing a particular task or service to a high standard of excellence. Receipt of this award neither recommends the marine for, nor precludes him from, receiving additional recognition such as the Cross of Valor.
  • Advanced Medical Proficiency Award (AMP): This award is authorized to Members who have a current CPR certification that is equivalent to a Basic Cardiac Life Support Course by the American Heart Association; or a First Aid Course that is equivalent to a Advanced First Aid Course by the American Red Cross; or has completed a Emergency Medical Technician Course (Basic).  Documentation of such training must be provided by the certifying organization, and verified by the issuing authority. This ribbon is unlike most others in that it may only be worn as long as the individual’s certification is in effect.
  • Medical Proficiency Award (MP):This award is authorized to marines who have completed either a CPR course that is equivalent to a Heartsaver course by the American Heart Association or completed a Basic Cardiac Life Support Course or equivalent. Documentation of such training must be provided by the certifying organization, and verified by the issuing authority. This ribbon is unlike most others in that it may only be worn as long as the individual’s certification is in effect.
